Outdoor play breaks are crucial to children's physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being at school. In Fall 2025, we were thrilled to open a brand-new, state-of-the-art, accessible playground for all children in our community to enjoy!

Friendship and Fun in Gan Re’ut!

Since the Asper Jewish Community Campus opened in 1997, thousands of children enjoyed countless hours of movement and fun free play on our original play structure. After nearly three decades, our smaller structure had begun to break down and no longer met today’s standards for safety or accessibility.

Thanks to an incredibly generous lead gift from the Rich family, along with gifts from Rady JCC and the Gray Academy Parent Association and a substantial grant from the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, a beautiful new blue and white play structure known as “Gan Re’ut” (גן רעות), Hebrew for “Friendship Garden,” is a safe, accessible place where all children in our community can play and grow together.

Key features of Gan Re’ut include:

  • A child-friendly, wheelchair- and stroller-friendly rubberized surface for dramatically improved comfort, accessibility and safety.
  • Brand-new up-to-code climbers and slides with double-wide access for various ages and abilities.
  • Canopy structures to provide much-needed shade and shelter.
  • Sensory Play Panels and a Communication Board to encourage cognitive development and social play.
  • Fully accessible We-Go-Round®, We-Saw® and Swayfun® ride-on elements to encourage movement and cooperative play.
  • And much more!

Friendship and fun for everyone

Each school day, Gray Academy students in JK-Grade 6 enjoy three outdoor recess breaks (weather permitting) for fun, interactive free play on our hard-top, in the field and on the play structures. Even High School students can have fun on the structures during their breaks.

Gan Re’ut will also be enjoyed year-round by children attending the Rady JCC’s Kaufman Child Care Centre and Summer Day Camps.
