Friendship and Fun in Gan Re’ut!
Each school day, Gray Academy students in JK-Grade 6 enjoy three outdoor recess breaks (weather permitting) for fun, interactive free play on our hard-top, in the field and on the play structures. Even High School students can have fun on the structures during their breaks.
Thanks to an incredibly generous lead gift from the Rich family, along with gifts from Rady JCC and the Gray Academy Parent Association and a substantial grant from the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, a beautiful new blue and white play structure known as “Gan Re’ut” (גן רעות), Hebrew for “Friendship Garden,” is a safe, accessible place where all children in our community can play and grow together.
Key features of Gan Re’ut include:
- A child-, wheelchair- and stroller-friendly rubberized surface for dramatically improved comfort, accessibility and safety.
- Brand-new up-to-code climbers and slides with double-wide access for various ages and abilities.
- Canopy structures to provide much-needed shade and shelter.
- Sensory Play Panels and a Communication Board to encourage cognitive development and social play.
- Fully accessible We-Go-Round®, We-Saw® and Swayfun® ride-on elements to encourage movement and cooperative play.
- And much more!
The Gray Academy-Tough Duck Ice Rink

During the winter months, students in Grades 4-10 can lace up their skates and take advantage of this amazing community asset during Phys Ed classes. Students in Grades 3-6 can participate in optional, no-cost, after-school Learn-to-Skate and Hockey Skills workshops. Students in Grades 7–12 can use the rink during free periods and at lunchtime for free skate and/or pickup hockey. Everyone in the community is welcome to book the rink for family fun outside school hours.
The HYPE is real!

When the snow is gone, the asphalt surface is ready for pickleball!
In Spring 2026, we were also thrilled to open the Hype Dome, a sleek, clear, multipurpose space located right beside the rink/court. This totally unique space will serve as a year-round hub for our students and the community. Outfitted with seating, the Hype Dome can function as an outdoor classroom, a unique programming space, a hangout spot, and a sheltered place to lace up skates in the winter.
