Starting in Grade 5 with an overnight trip to Camp Massad, students at Gray Academy have opportunities for weekends away and trips around the world. These weekends and trips build cohesiveness in the grade, teach self reliance, and give students the opportunity to experience life in other cities and countries.

Camp Trips

In Grade 5, students spend one night and two days at Camp Massad in June. Students practice their Hebrew skills, perform in plays, sing songs, and more.

In Grade 7, Students spend three days and two nights at BB Camp Kenora. They canoe, kayak, have cookouts, and learn about life in the wilderness.

Spirit Weekends

In Grades 7-9 students have spirit weekends with their grades in locations around the province. The weekends give students an immersive Shabbat experience while giving them the opportunity to bond with their teachers, older Grade 11 and 12 student leaders, and each other.

Retreat

For over 30 years, Barry Bender has been leading our Jewish Awareness Retreats at Camp Cedarwood in beautiful Lac du Bonnet. This trip takes place every January for Grades 10-12. Students learn about their Judaism while being in a safe and fun environment. Barry and his team of Madrichim (councillors), lead discussions and programs that inspire and educate. This is always an impactful weekend and one that our students never forget.

Grade 9 Washington Trip

Every year, our Grade 9 students travel to Washington, DC, to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This impactful trip furthers students education of the Holocaust and how to make sure it never happens again. While parts of the trip revolve around topics that are more emotional, others are more fun and light. The trip includes excursions to the major monuments in Washington as well as trips to the Smithsonian. This trip is generously funded by the Asper Foundation.

Partnership 2Gether

Gray Academy has an over twenty year relationship with Danciger High School in Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. Our students travel to Israel every spring to live and experience life in Israel. In the fall, students from Danciger return the favour and learn about life in Canada while living in houses of our students. While in Israel, students live with their Israeli counterparts to get a full immersive experience. P2G is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our students never forget. Student apply to be selected to participate in Grades 10 and 11.
