As the school year winds down and case numbers in our province continue to decrease, Gray Academy is making some changes to health and safety protocols. As we have done throughout the pandemic, decisions have been made with great care, in consultation with medical professionals.

WHAT’S CHANGING

Removing the vaccine mandate

  • After careful consideration, the Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education has made the decision to remove its vaccine mandate for the 2022-2023 school year.
  • The WBJE continues to strongly recommend all students be vaccinated against COVID-19; however, Gray Academy will not require vaccination for students of any age to in order to enroll at/attend our school.

Changing our guiding documentation

  • The Quick Reference Guide is now the primary guiding document for Gray Academy.
  • Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, our Framework for Health and Safety has been a vital guiding document for Gray Academy families; however, since much of the Framework for Health and Safety was designed for a Yellow or Red pandemic response, it no longer applies effectively for our current requirements.
  • Should the pandemic situation in Manitoba change, we will revisit and update the Framework.

Mask use

  • Mask use is no longer mandatory in classrooms or other school gathering spaces.
  • For the remainder of the current school year, masks continue to be required when students/staff are moving through school hallways and/or in all common areas in the AJCC, in accordance with AJCC policy.
  • Students who want to continue wearing a mask can feel comfortable doing so in a respectful and supportive environment.

Recess and Activities

  • Early Years and Elementary students are no longer required to remain in cohorts during recess; students can play wherever and with whomever they wish during recess periods.
  • Effective May 24, Elementary students will once again be able to play outside after drop off until the first morning bell rings, weather permitting.
  • Band, including wind instruments, is now meeting together in person in the music room instead of online.
  • Students are permitted to sing together, which allows us to proceed with our Elementary musical and singing at other upcoming year-end celebrations.

Milestone celebrations

  • Our end-of-year celebrations will be held indoors, in person this year.
  • In-person attendance for most events will be limited to immediate family members (moms, dads and siblings) and mask use will still be required; extended family and friends will still be able to tune in via livestream or enjoy a video recording following the event.
  • After two school years of Zoom and/or parking loop celebrations, this is a very exciting change for our students, staff and families!

WHAT REMAINS UNCHANGED FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

  • We will remain vigilant around hand hygiene and cleaning at school.
  • Mask use is still required in all hallways at school and all common areas of the AJCC, such as Main Street, Schmoozers and hallways leading to the gym.
  • Families must continue to follow the protocols in our Quick Reference Guide when there is a positive case of COVID-19 in the household.
  • Students who are ill must still remain at home until they are symptom free.
  • Access to the school building by parents/guardians, volunteers and/or visitors continues to be by invitation or appointment only. If you would like to make an appointment, you can call or email the school, or click to use our convenient Appointment Request Form.
  • Drop-off and pick-up routines remain unchanged.
