Band and Drumline
Students in Grades 4 through 12 can learn to play and perform by participating in optional after-school band and drum line programs. Beginners can choose from a range of instruments and learn the fundamentals of playing. Intermediate and advanced groups can take their skills to the next level and perform at events outside school. All participants have opportunities to perform for classmates, family and friends at our annual school concert.
Musical Theatre
Gray Academy has a long tradition of staging high-calibre musical productions for the community. In alternating years, musicals are mounted by High School and Elementary. On stage, our students never fail to delight audiences with their impressive singing, dancing and acting talents. Behind the scenes, students play an integral role in set-building, stage management, technical production and more.
Visual Arts
In addition to our regular Art curriculum, Elementary students can take part in lunchtime art clubs, while High School students can deepen their study and practice of drawing, painting, sculpture and photography by selecting Art as an elective. Each year, the entire community is invited to visit our Gray Gallery – online and on display in the Kaufman Silverberg Library. Patrons can purchase student-made drawings, paintings, sculptures and pottery, with half the proceeds going to the artist and half to tzedaka.
Each year, students also participate in an art exhibit in partnership with the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada. Based on a new theme each year, students create new works based on assets in the Heritage Centre archive, giving the students a unique opportunity to express their creativity while learning about Jewish history in Manitoba.
